Tunneling Belt Conveyor

With the increase of tunnel construction projects, original TBM tunnel construction slag-conveying system is hard to adapt to the conveying requirement. With rapid development and application of long-distance rubber belt conveyor, its characteristics such as high efficiency, safety and continuous operation make it be a key equipment to convey the bulk materials. According to requirements and characteristics of tunneling and slag-conveying process of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), the long-distance rubber belt conveyor has improved some parts to meet the requirement of conveying slag, and will become the optimal slag-conveying system in TBM large tunnel construction.
Slag-conveying technology and structural features of tunneling rubber belt conveyor: In the tunnel construction, after Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) works, the slags are collected into the slag-collecting tank in the work head at the rear part of cutter head, transferred in turn into 1#, 2# and 3# short rubber belt conveyors inside the girder, and then into the slag-discharging part at the tail of long rubber belt conveyor, and sent to the designated slag field through this rubber belt conveyor.
The tail devices of long rubber belt conveyor (including tail bend pulley, tail frame and tail drive device) are installed onto the matched trolley at the rear part of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), and move forward with it. The bracket in the middle of the long rubber belt conveyor (longitudinal beam and support frame) is installed onto the side wall (or hung onto the chain at the top of cavity) and extended forward.
The return section at the head of long rubber belt conveyor is provided with the belt storage, which can store 600m rubber belt. With the tunneling of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), the stored rubber belt is released under the control of tension device, and re-start the tension device after completing the release to store the new rubber belt into the belt storage. As is shown in Fig.3, the stationary end of belt storage is provided with four sets of bend pulleys, and the moving trolley on another end is also provided with four sets of bend pulleys, the rubber belt is folded into eight layers, and the middle is provided with several sets of belt-holding devices, which can guarantee the sag of rubber belt inside the belt storage. The moving trolley and the four sets of bend pulleys on it, under the action of tension, move back and forth along with the track inside the frame of the belt storage to realize storage and release of the rubber belt.
To guarantee the driving force required by the long rubber belt conveyor and reduce the tension of rubber belt, such rubber belt conveyor shall adopt multi-point drive; in general, the rubber belt conveyor is provided with two or three sets of drive devices at its head, and one set of drive device at its tail. As for ultra-long rubber belt conveyor, when Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) moves towards a farther position, a central drive is arranged in the middle (also called central trans-conveying), which can reduce the maximum tension of rubber belt effectively, and reduce the investment in equipment.
